Types of Finland Residence Permits for Work

There are different forms to fill out for different types of work that require a residence pass. The link tells you what each pass needs and how to apply for it.

Residence permit for an employed person (TTOL)

This kind of work pass is used the most. You are coming to Finland to work in a certain job, like as a waitress, building worker, cleaner, or babysitter. A Finnish company will hire you. You must have been given a job offer.

As part of this permit, your boss must first check the labor market to see if there are enough qualified people in Finland or the European Economic Area (EEA) to fill the job within a reasonable amount of time.

The Employment and Economic Development Office will make a partial choice after looking at the job market tests. The Finnish Immigration Service will then decide what to do with your application.

A work visa from the Finnish government usually lasts for a year. The length of time will depend on the type of visa you have, though.

A B permit, which is also called a temporary permit, is only good for one year. One more name for an A permit is an ongoing permit. This permit is good for as long as you work in Finland.

Can I Extend a Finland Work Permit?

You can, of course. If you have a certain kind of pass, you can ask for an extension either once a year or every four years. A temporary permit needs to be renewed every year, while a permanent permit only needs to be renewed every four years. You need to ask for an extension at least three months before your pass runs out.

After living with a continuous permit for about 5 years, you can apply for a residence permit. This permit is good for life, unless there is a reason to take it away.
